Curriculum

Subjects...

As a Catholic School, Religious Education is at the heart of all our learning. All pupils have full access to the National Curriculum which consists of three core subjects - English, Mathematics and Science.

The foundation subjects are: Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Languages - for which we study Spanish, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education.

Inclusion...

We value each individual child and aim to help all children to achieve well and make good progress.

Special Educational Needs...

Our aim at St Mary Magdalen's is to ensure that children with special educational needs are identified and given extra support as early as possible. Parents/carers are informed and invited to discuss the additional help and support that is needed. If it is necessary for the school to get extra help from other professionals such as speech therapists or educational psychologists, parents/carers are always fully involved in all stages.

English as an Additional Language...

Many children at St Mary Magdalen's speak English as an additional language. These children are offered extra support, if it is needed. All staff are trained and experienced in planning and delivering lessons which are specifically designed to develop spoken and written English.

Gifted and Talented...

Children who show signs of high ability in all or some areas of the curriculum are given more challenging tasks in class by their teacher. Children may also be invited to attend inter-school or borough-based activities.

Reports on progress...

A written report on each child's progress is sent home to parents/carers in the second half of the Summer Term. Parents/carers are given the opportunity to discuss their child's progress and achievement with their class teacher in both the Autumn and the Spring terms. In addition, throughout the year, class teachers are available to meet with parents/carers at mutually convenient times.
